Second Annual Hesse-Dass-Bowers Christmas Shopping Experience

Today was the Second Annual Hesse-Dass-Bowers Christmas Shopping Experience at Potomac Mills Mall. Though the mall is 90 minutes from each of us, it's a fairly central location and provided some good Christmas shopping opportunities. But with three moms, three toddlers, and a newborn, it was quite an adventure.

Danielle, Ginny and I met online through a parenting message board, and though we'd been friends for two years we'd only just met each other in real life at last year's AHDBCSE. But Patrick, Claire, and Allie were all born within two days of each other, and have been BFFs since birth. Here is one of the best pictures from last year's AHDBSCE, just for funsies.

Patrick and Allie went for a car ride together last year...

...and he was happy to take her for another spin this year.

Claire wanted to drive the train instead.

But mostly they took turns pairing up in the double stroller, took turns stealing Claire's Pooh and Patrick's monster truck.

By the end of the shopping adventure all three kids were hours past their regularly scheduled naps. Patrick broke at least two ornaments in the Disney outlet, both girls had diaper disasters of some sort or another, and Danielle's limp grew more and more pronounced as her injured leg bothered her more and more. I was pushing Claire and Patrick in the double stroller, and Patrick was trying desperately to steal the soft pretzel out of Claire's hand. She pushed him away, and he got mad so he shrieked that high-pitched scream only toddlers can manage at her. She pushed him away again, so he shrieked again. The third time he shrieked she shouted "No!" and stuck her pacifier in his mouth. Bless her heart it worked, and the poor kid was so interested in the novelty of a pacifier that he stopped shrieking for a while.

By the time I got my babies home and fed it was nearly 9:00. Piper was on her grumpiest behavior, but Patrick had enough energy to build me a special project out of his new MegaBlocks. He proudly declared it to be an Aerial Lift.
